Tented Spaces

A big tent went up in my backyard today for a good friend's birthday bash, which got me to thinking about some of my favorite tented interior spaces..

Trendspotting: Black and White Stripes in the Bath

What is it about black and white stripes in the bathroom?  I'm loving the look - it can be masculine and strong, while simultaneously glamorous and dramatic.  Bathrooms are the perfect place to try a bold, large scale print like this...

Nothing says they have to be only vertical stripes!

While painted or wallpapered stripes are perhaps the most popular, creating stripes (or chevron stripes) with tile is a fabulous (though more permanent and expensive!) possibility, too...

Like the idea, but not ready for something quite so bold?  How about bringing in the look through the use of a black and white striped shower curtain?

Enjoy!

Treehouses!

Last weekend, I came home from my overnight trip with my book club to Foxwoods (yes, you read that right) to find an oversized treehouse/fort/swing set constructed in a previously humble flower bed on the side of our yard.  The girls are thrilled, but I imagine our neighbors rue the day we moved in.  I'm paranoid it's just bit too much.

But then I came across these treehouses by the German company Bauram which helped put things in perspective.

And check out these sweet pads from the eco-friendly design/build company Blue Forest.  The first one features a finger lock system for its little owners!

Happy climbing!

Etsy Pillows by Kyoozi

If you're decorating on a budget (and who isn't, at least to some extent...), an affordable way to use the lush texture, pattern and color of designer fabrics, is through throw pillows.  A little fabric goes a long way here, and they're easy to change out in a couple of years if you're ready for something different.  Throw pillows are also a low-risk way to try something really wild and different!

Etsy seller Kyoozi has one of the most extensive shops, featuring pillow covers made from some of my favorite fabrics from the likes of Duralee, Schumacher and P Kaufman.  And the prices are reasonable, too!  I haven't ordered from here yet, but I'm guessing it won't be long.

The Bahamas, by India Hicks

So, I know "envy" qualifies as one of the seven deadly sins... but seriously, how else are we supposed to respond to the life and times of India Hicks?

She's gorgeous, flaunts fabulous lineage (as the daughter of famed British interior designer David Hicks), a cute dog, and (apparently) kick-ass La Fiorentina chairs worth of a Lonny cover.

Oh, and did we mention she was one of Princess Diana's bridesmaids (as a cousin to Prince Charles)?  Not too shabby...

Hicks and partner David Flint Wood call the Bahamas home, where they've designed a collection of stunning vacation rental properties on Harbour Island.  I am so loving the clean lines, restrained neutrals, and lush textures used in these spaces...

Ready for your next vacation?
