I try hard to keep my shopping as 'local' as possible, not only to help support my fellow local business owners, but because I'm too lazy and have too many small children to traipse very far for shopping. So for food, shoes, gifts, bread and wine (ahem) I keep it close, and enjoy living in a small town where people at all those places know your name.
Accordingly, I haven't made it to the big box places like Target much lately. But even Target, it seems, is recognizing the draw of small town shopping, and getting in on a piece of the action (isn't it ironic?). Yesterday they launched "The Shops" at Target, featuring products inspired by their favorite smaller-town shops across America.
Privet House, in Greenwich, Connecticut inspired/developed/approved (not sure how the relationship works) some fun items including this faux alligator frame, jute placemats, and rope poufs.
The two fashionista sisters who started The Webster in Miami, created some fun, bright and affordable pieces for their Target collection.
And these sweet looking treats from The Candy Shop would make great party favors...
What do you think of "The Shops at Target" concept? Great exposure for smaller shops, or selling out to the masses?
