Blog Love: I Suwanee

I enjoyed seeing the home of Jamie Meares, the blogger behind I Suwanee, featured in the premiere issue of High Gloss Magazine.  Jamie's designs are bold and punchy, while still elegant, and I've always loved her blog for its sharp wit.

Several months ago Jamie branched out with an e-commerce site - lucky for us!  Furbish Online is a great stop for home furnishings and accessories.  Check out some of my favorites below:

Blogger After Party: The Collective

One of my favoite aspects of our trip to New York City for the Nate Berkus Show Tuesday was the fascinating decor at The Collective, site of the after-party for design bloggers hosted by The Nest.

All of the decor at The Collective was crafted from 'found objects' by local artists, and the results are spectacular.  I loved the lighting fixtures in particular - check out these pieces created from plastic cups and straws, styrofoam, plastic hangers, empty prescription pill bottles, laundry scoops, and a parking meter.

My favorite piece of furniture?  This chair crafted from a 'walk/don't walk' sign that still lights up:

Chairs crafted  from other traffic signs:

Notice the lego pieces filling the brick wall in the background?  A concept I blogged about here:

Loving the blue jean sofa:

Oh, and is that what you do with an ironing board?  I wouldn't know (clearly, if you saw my shirt this morning).

A bit hard to tell from the photo, but this couch and accompanying chairs are crafted from a pedestal bath tub, a wacky and fun (but probably uncomfortable) concept I previously blogged about here:

Support columns are spiced up using a variety of jewels in the first photo, and red plastic straws in the second:

I don't usually think of license plates as particularly pliable, but check out the birds they've become at one corner of the bar:

And lastly, a fun molding vingette:

Photos of our bar car design challenge entry will be on The Nest's website tomorrow.  Take a peek and vote for Living Livelier's entry!

Cheers,
Deb

Nate Berkus Show/Blogger Party Recap!

Becky and I were delighted to be invited to a special taping of the Nate Berkus Show for an audience of design bloggers yesterday in New York City!  We logged about 8 hours of driving for 7 short-lived hours of design fun in the city, but it was totally worth it!

Here we are, on Nate's set at the CBS Studios on West 57th Street:

Nate's shows are taped in advance, so we're not at liberty to tell you too much about the content, other than that special guests included Design Star winner Emily Henderson and Project Runway winner Christian Siriano.

The audience was a veritable who's who of design bloggers from around the country including (but not limited to!) Janell of Isabella and Max Rooms, Jenny of Little Green Notebook, Lindsay of Everything LEB, Emily of Emily A. Clark, Cristin of Simplified Bee, Kristin of 6th Street Design School and of course Camila of High-Heeled Foot in the Door.

The party continued downtown at a champagne and desert event sponsored by The Nest Magazine and Camila Pavone of High-Heeled Foot in the Door.

The editors at The Nest Magazine brilliantly set up a 'design challenge' for the blogger partiers: to design a bar cart with a (limited) offering of available resources including ribbon, books, paper umbrellas and the like.

Here's Becky hard at work on Living Livelier's bar car entry:

And here I am, looking a bit skeptical, but happy with drink in hand:

Some bar cart design competition:

Camila and a style editor from The Nest - many thanks for hosting us!

More details to come...
and don't forget to enter our giveaway for a beautiful melamine platter and plates from DaniNotes!

Out of the Office: At the Nate Berkus Show!

You'll have to excuse us, we're out of the office today, in New York City for a special taping of the Nate Berkus Show for an audience of design bloggers!  Unfortunately, it's just a day trip for us (and we had to pass on invites from HGTV and Rue Magazine for other blogger-centric events held yesterday - boo) since we live in Boston (otherwise known as 'not NYC').

We'll leave you with some of our favorite Nate designed interiors...

and some of our favorite Nate designed furnishings...

Leather Studded Table, $199

and a friendly reminder to enter our giveaway of a gorgeous melamine platter and four matching plates from Dani Notes by clicking here...

Enjoy!
