The Novogratzs Pull Back

You probably remember the Novogratzs (they with the two sets of twins and three additional kids) from their reality show 9 By Design, and from some of the outrageous projects they've done around New York City.  They're super fun to watch, and I love their work, as 'out there' as it is, sometimes.

But, I really appreciated seeing just how diverse Bob and Cortney Novogratz's talents are, in the latest issue of Rue Magazine.  The pair took on a small prewar railroaded East Village apartment, and showed beautiful restraint in their decoration...

Over the couch, an oversized photograph (a favorite trick of the Novogratzs) sits perfectly inside the molding - something I've never seen before!

The homeowner had an impressive collection of antique and vintage goods, which the Novogratzs helped display to perfection...

I think everyone needs the "A Man Walks into a Bar" sign over their barcart.  And those dining chairs are just plain awesome.

I think the moody blue and green hues work beautifully for this bachelor's apartment, and read neutral enough to let his vintage collections really take center stage.

We waited a while while the folks at Lonny did some reorganization work... but the new Lonny is finally here!  Can you notice what the following images, all from various stories in the latest issue,  have in common?

House of Fifty has Launched!

"House of Fifty", an online magazine by Janell Beals, who writes the insanely terrific design blog "Isabell & Max Rooms", launched yesterday after much anticipation.

We met Janell at a special taping of the "The Nate Berkus Show"just for design bloggers.  The tag line pretty much sums it up: "ideas for inspired living" and the magazine delivers.  It features great tips on DIY interior design, fun product suggestions, flower arranging and even recipes.

 My favorite feature was on "Creating a Family Command Center" (makes it sound like mission control!) and if you work and have kids & pets you KNOW you need this!  And guess what?  It doesn't have to look like this:

It can be stylish, functional and beautiful. Wow. Impressive.

And Cristin Preist's (author of Simplified Bee, and another new blogging friend from the Nate Berkus show) "Message Board Chic" was absolutely fabulous paired with it.

The burlap message board and bee push pins from Ballard Design are fantastic!

Now, go read House of Fifty and soak up all those great ideas!

TradHome is Live!

The latest online shelter magazine, Tradhome, a collaboration of Lonny and Traditional Home, went live yesterday and it is amazing!

This debut issue not only challenges our perception of what defines "traditional" in design, but it also challenges what exactly a "magazine" looks and feels like in today's techno-savy world. 

For example, after flipping through the first few pages, you hit upon a spread that includes a playful video interview with Jonathan Adler and Charlotte Moss, discussing what traditional design means to them.  To me, these designers' aesthetics seem in complete opposition to one another, but we find they have some common ground in their work (for example, both bow down to the Bergere chair as a staple of traditional design in their interiors).

The main take away from TradHome's debut issue?  That all good design begins with elements that are pretty classic, as a jumping off point.  And look where it can then lead you...

The Wallpapered Ceilings of Lonny

It's always a treat to see via my inbox that the latest issue of Lonny has gone live.  I got that email last night, and clicking through the virtual mag was a nice respite from the bat capturing/rabies testing/board of health corresponding saga that has become my life this week.

The feature showcasing the Ohio home of Colleen Locke, with all its vintage flair, was a highlight this month.  The stunning ceiling of Locke's living room had me reminiscing about some of the other wallpapered ceilings featured in Lonny since its inception last year.

High Gloss Premiere Issue!

Yesterday marked the long-awaited premiere issue of the latest online style magazine, High Gloss.  Brought to you by a talented group of women including the bloggers behind Elements of Style and La Dolce Vita, this publication included some serious interiors eye candy!

My favorite?  The Boston bachelorette pad designed by Erin Gates, who combined just the right amount of pink, zebra, lucite, crystal, Imperial Trellis and on and on!  It is just perfect...

Check out some shots of Tia Zoldan's Los Angeles home, and notice in particular the voluminous drapes featured in room after room.  They have incredible body (and must had required incredible yardage!), and remind me of A-line skirts dressing the windows.

Look for Less: Studded Table

Did you catch the latest issue of Rue Magazine, which launched last week?  My favorite spread features the Upper East Side home of visual artist and mom Nicole Cohen.  I'm loving her master bedroom's Imperial Trellis wallpaper in Onyz Gloss, one of the less frequently used colorways.  And check out that sharp nightstand, and our 'look for less' piece below!
