What we LOVE!!! PaperEskimo: Chic Party Supplies

I am soooooo tired of looking for awesome party supplies for my kids parties and failing.  I am sorry, but the big box stores and online party sites just aren't cutting it these days with their commercial, overdone styles.  Are you with me on this?  Recently,  I have either actually had to make something or order custom made items from Etsy. But no more!!  Let me introduce you to Paper Eskimo.

Seriously, can you stand it?!?!  And I love that they give color palettes and tips to make it a complete hit!  Kids and adults alike will adore this line!

I think my favorite items are the paper baking cups, candles and bunting... just too adorable!!

I can't wait for the next birthday party to roll around!!  Bring it on!!

What's your favorite item or theme??  Do tell!!

Have a delightful day!
Becky

By the way dear readers, this post was completely unsolicited :)

Cheers!

Charlotte Moss and the NYCB

Having the good fortune to work at New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center for a couple of years, I was particularly curious to open an email from the hugely talented Charlotte Moss showcasing her designs for their Spring Gala last month.

A major perk of spending each day working among the most talented performing artists in the world (like that wasn't perks enough!) was the opportunity to attend and be involved in the various galas and fundraisers that help keep the company funded.

For the party following the performances, a challenge is how to transform an enormous, several stories high "blank slate" lobby (built to resemble the inside of a jewelry box) into a seemingly intimate and festive space.

See below, with images from her website, how Charlotte Moss transformed the theater into a Spring  garden party.  I just love everything about the lush floral designs - especially how the enormous hydrangea centerpieces collectively serve to create, a second lower ceiling in the overwhelming space.  Amazing...

Of course, one can't help but wonder if the some of the cash spent on these stunning designs might be better served funding the arts directly... but I guess the big donors don't come out for chicken nuggets and carnations!

Think Garnish!

I came across the greatest site for cooking and party accoutrements... because as in the home, it's all about the presentation!  Think Garnish sells the "blank canvases" (containers, bottles, straws, bags) "just waiting for your expression".  The possibilities are endless - party favors, gifts, elegant affairs, and so on!  Just add your creative touch...

Wish I had seen this in time for the holidays!  Oh well, there's always next year....

JA's African Headdress - Look for Less!

Have you seen the new African Headdress by Jonathan Adler?  Pretty stunning... and pretty expensive ($650!).

It reminded me immediately, in shape and spirit, of the paper poms we recently used as party decorations for a friend's 40th.  Here are a few hung from the dining room chandelier.

I purchased mine through etsy seller "prosttothehost", who offers them in a variety of sizes and colors.

They come in the mail like this...

and you peel back the layers for them to look like this!  Super for parties, or nursery decor too!

Party Animal!

We were thrilled to handle the decorations and other accents for a dear friend's surprise party the other day. The theme?  Hot pink and animal print - fiesty and fun just like the guest of honor...
`
We wrapped all the vases, candlesticks, and votives with animal print ribbon from Michaels (you'll need fabric glue to hold them, should you try this at home!).  How cute are the feathers Becky added to her flower arrangements?
Another arrangement, flanked by animal print playing cards...
Guests hiding up the stairwell, getting ready for the big surprise...
We made these buntings using hot pink envelopes, and color copies of our zebra cocktail napkins.
And how cute are these edible animal print butterflies we used on top of the cupcakes?  You can find them in the etsy shop Sugar Robot.
Have you been to any great parties lately?

Blogger After Party: The Collective

One of my favoite aspects of our trip to New York City for the Nate Berkus Show Tuesday was the fascinating decor at The Collective, site of the after-party for design bloggers hosted by The Nest.

All of the decor at The Collective was crafted from 'found objects' by local artists, and the results are spectacular.  I loved the lighting fixtures in particular - check out these pieces created from plastic cups and straws, styrofoam, plastic hangers, empty prescription pill bottles, laundry scoops, and a parking meter.

My favorite piece of furniture?  This chair crafted from a 'walk/don't walk' sign that still lights up:

Chairs crafted  from other traffic signs:

Notice the lego pieces filling the brick wall in the background?  A concept I blogged about here:

Loving the blue jean sofa:

Oh, and is that what you do with an ironing board?  I wouldn't know (clearly, if you saw my shirt this morning).

A bit hard to tell from the photo, but this couch and accompanying chairs are crafted from a pedestal bath tub, a wacky and fun (but probably uncomfortable) concept I previously blogged about here:

Support columns are spiced up using a variety of jewels in the first photo, and red plastic straws in the second:

I don't usually think of license plates as particularly pliable, but check out the birds they've become at one corner of the bar:

And lastly, a fun molding vingette:

Photos of our bar car design challenge entry will be on The Nest's website tomorrow.  Take a peek and vote for Living Livelier's entry!

Cheers,
