Nathan Turner's New Book and Appearance

Oh you lucky New Yorkers!!!  Celebrity designer Nathan Turner (of Million Dollar Decorator fame) will be in NYC today at Pottery Barn (B-way and 67th) to promote his new book "Nathan Turner's American Style: Classic Design and Effortless Entertaining".

Just go so I can live vicariously through you!

We love Nathan's comfy and classic American interiors....

Hat Party!

There is an event in New York City that I have always wanted to see in action... not so much attend as just be a fly on the wall: The Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon.  AKA: The Hat Party. 

Tiffany was the sponsor and provided Tiffany blue bags and umbrellas!

And do you see what I see?

Yep - that's Scalamandre's Chi'en Dragon exclusively colored and fabricated for the FLO luncheon. Afterwards the tablecloths were available for sale and all proceeds went to the Conservancy.

When Food and Art Collide!

Yep, this was my birthday dinner desert!  Incredible fried dark chocolate with citrus something or other from "Gastroarte" on the Upper West Side. Their website is not super impressive, but trust me, the food is as good as the presentation!

Yummmmmmm.....Maybe when we are in the city for Blogfest, we'll pop in for a bite!

In other "food" news, Deb's first shot at a vegetable garden is complete (notice the hedgehog garden friend among the lettuces)!

The Golden Age of Train Travel!

I LOVE when old, beautiful buildings are restored to their original grandeur - especially civic spaces.  I worked next door to Grand Central Station when it was being restored in the mid '90's and I was amazed on a daily basis. When pieces of scaffolding came down people would just stand in awe - and yes, I was one of those gawkers. Perhaps I am just a romantic fool, but when you set foot inside one of these amazingly restored buildings, it is like stepping back in time.  So much so that you barely notice when other people are bumping into to you to catch the next train! 

The latest to be added to the "saved" column and restored is the Hoboken Terminal in New Jersey.  This beautiful Beaux-Arts-style building has been brought back to life by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners—the firm behind masterful restorations at Grand Central Terminal.

I hear that Penn Station is up next and can't wait to see what they do, given the original iconic Penn Station was torn down in the '60's!

Can you imagine tearing that down and replacing it with this?

Yeah - they got that right... not.
