Upcoming Show Houses in Boston and NYC!

Hello lovely readers - we have some fun upcoming events to share with you.  (No one has asked us to post these events, they just look like fun and we wanted to share them with you!)

Are you looking for some good inspiration and lovely ideas?  The Junior League of Boston Show House tickets are on sale!  The Potter Estate is on the grounds of the Jackson-Walnut Park School in Newton.  The house opens on October 16th and runs until November 18th.

LOVE this work-in-progress sneak peak of the the pooch standing watch on the stairwell of this historic property..

Do you live in the NYC area?  Have you heard of the "Holiday House"?  This year it is benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  This Holiday themed show house will be open to the public from October 25 - November 18th and is located at an historic limestone mansion at 2 East 63rd Street.

Oh and by the way, "Holiday" doesn't just refer to Christmas.  Here is the room from 2011 that was dedicated to "Mother's Day". I wouldn't mind spending Mother's Day in this room by Ally Coulter!

And lastly, if you happen to be an Orchid fan, there is the 60th Orchid Jubilee at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA from November 2 - 4.

Hope to see you there - let us know if you go!!

Cheers!

Barn Charm!

I am a sucker for a good barn. My Mom grew up in South Dakota and the highlight, growing up,  of my summer vacation was going to see my grandparents. Though they didn't live on a farm - in fact far from it - my Grandpa was a big horse man and we spent a big chunk of time at the barn; riding and grooming horses, watching my grandfather shoe them, climbing in and out of the buggies and haylofts, chasing crickets, playing with the barn cat and the inevitable litter of kittens. What's not to love? I grew to love the smell of hay, horses and leather.

Here I am on "Trixie" at about age 4...though come to think of it, it might have been "Pixie".  My Grandpa had "matching" ponies for my sister and I, and I don't think I ever knew which was which!

We went to a "Summer Solstice" event on Friday night at the historic Wright Locke Farm in Winchester and if you have never been, you MUST go!!  Being at Wright Locke Farm brought those memories flooding back.  This incredible space was originally built in 1827 and the conservatory has been working hard to bring it back to its original use and splendor.  They have begun farming the land, raising chickens and lambs and have started an educational program over the summer for elementary-aged students.

Love the mason jars with candles suspended from the tree.

Sunset ;)

To add ambiance, (as if there wasn't enough...) they strung Christmas lights through old wooden ladders and balanced them between the right and left sides of the barn...

The hay loft!

Would you look at the amazing architectural structure?!?

An old wagon in beautiful condition.

And I am guessing an old horse blanket ;)

I am by no means an "equestrian" (you might have noticed that the pony I was sitting on (be it Trixie or Pixie) was tied to that antique cutter...I am not what you'd call the adventurous type!!) but I do think the barn would be well served by a couple of lovely horses!!

Cheers!

Bloomin' Art!

It was so nice to see a large crowd out to support Art in Bloom at the Next Door Theater on Friday!  Becky did a beautiful job reflecting and interpreting her artist's scarf through a beautiful arrangement featuring delphiniums, mondo grass and curly twigs.  The small accent candle was there to cast shadows of the grass onto the flowers as seen in the handmade silk scarf.

She wasn't the only designer given the challenging task of interpreting a piece of wearable art with floral design...

This designer used flowers exclusively pulled from her garden, and the results were beautiful and graceful, just like the dancer they reflected...

Another personal favorite...

Other bold and abstract pieces from the evening... there really was something for everyone!

Congratulations to all the artists and designers on this unique collaboration!

On the Catwalk!

Oh my my my....you'll never guess what we're up to now!!!

We're back at it again participating in another "Women Helping Women" event this spring...you may remember the "Design on a Dime" event this past October.  This time the event is "Project Runway: 2012 'Who's Who in the Headlines'".  I am designing and creating a dress, and Deb has graciously agreed to wear my creation down the catwalk at the Burlington Marriot.  It is sure to be a hoot!!  Tickets go on sale February 1 at the Winchester Chamber of Commerce. Apparently it sells out every year, so get your tickets early and join us for this fun event!!
