Weekend Recap: New England Antique and Junk Store Finds

I spent the weekend with my husband and children, travelling to visit friends and family first on the North Shore of Massachusetts, and then at the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.  Our first stop, Essex, MA, is known for its beautiful antique stores.  I popped into a few Saturday afternoon (under the guise of making a Dunkin Donuts/Coors Lite run), and was suprised at the steep prices.  I thought I found the perfect pedestal table for one client, until I saw the price tag of $37,000 (at which point my goal became to back out of the store as quickly as possible without breaking anything).

But I was thrilled to find this beautiful wooden light fixture at a Conomo Point (Essex) antiques (junk?) shop for $85.  I can't wait to paint it and throw it up in my foyer.

Further down the road, I picked up a bunch of letters to spell out "Nice Tan" above the cabinets in our pool house/shack, an idea I lifted from a home featured in Coastal Living magazine.

We decided they seemed too formal in gold, so I spray painted them with navy blue Krylon from Walmart.

These formerly faded green Adirondack chairs begged for a coat, too.

On to Meredith, NH where this little number awaited my arrival (scored by my mom for $10 at a local consignment shop):

Then off to my favorite local antique/vintage store, The Glass Knob, where I purchased a charming clock to spruce up an akward pass-thorough off my kitchen, miniature topiaries ($3 each) for my bathroom, and some fabric and trim remnants for some place, some time!

Last stop Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor, NH, the holy grail of all things quilting in New England.  The fabric selection actually doesn't really float my boat, but I did pick up two more pink/orange themed fabrics for my baby daughter's room redo, and an adorable collection of dogs and cats cut from vintage fabrics.  What will I do with them?  I have absolutely no idea, but will happily take any suggestions that do not involve quilting.

Did you find anything fun this weekend?

  1. What a fun weekend! I especially love the hanging lamp and the orange vase. How about fabric gluing the little dogs to a thick mat for a frame to use for photos, art or a mirror?
