Loving in Lighting: Juliska Pendants

The latest issue of Coastal Living features a fabulous kitchen designed by Dana Small for her sister-in-law's Lake Michigan home.  I love the white on white, paired with the tile backsplash in greens, and the  oh-so-subtle aqua ceiling color.  

But, it's the island pendants that provide the real wow factor for me in this space.  Made by Juliska, these pendants are mouth blown in the hills outside of Prague...

The pendants come as globes in addition to the columns used above, each with a gorgeous silhouette and delicate detailing...

Shopping Your Favorite Hotels

I discovered a fun web site the other night when googling around after some hotels I'd been eyeing from Travel and Leisure.  This is really why I read Travel and Leisure - I love checking out the interior designs of various hotels around the world, even though I'm not likely visiting them anytime soon.  Hotel eye candy, that's my thing.

Through a site called Discover and Deliver, you can shop the furnishings, lighting and accessories gracing some of the world's finest luxury hotels and restaurants.  For example, if you were lucky enough to take a ski holiday at the French Hotel Altapura...

...and wanted to create the look in your New England center- entrance colonial, you're in luck (um, kind of).  Discover and Deliver can source you the Cortina armchair and Grizzli stool.

If you prefer sunny beaches to snowy slopes, you can venture over to the W Hotel Miami's offerings...

...including these versatile Tulip family lamps...

...or get inspired in the lounge by Diane Von Furstenberg's funky climbing leopard rug...

Or conversely, you can start with a piece, such as Tom Dixon's copper shade pendant, and see it in different hotel settings...

I'm not a huge fan of it as used in the Smythe Tribeca Hotel in New York...

...but I'm digging it in the Dock Kitchen in London...

Lovin' It: Ballard's Recent Offerings in Lighting

It's that time of year, when we're bombarded with seemingly a hundred catalogs on a daily basis, in the name of holiday marketing, sales, and - oh yeah- cheer.  There's too many to carefully peruse, but I make a point to pull a few aside - including Ballard Designs, for its affordable and generally stylish products.  I particularly love their offerings in lighting this season...

You know I bemoan the lack of decent offerings on the market in the realm of flush and semi-flush mounts.  So, I was thrilled to see two great, affordable options that fit the bill!

I love sconces, but I especially love candle sconces for folks looking for a fantastic accent without paying for an electrician!   And Ballard's Elise Candle Sconces are a perfect, elegant example...

I'm SO fascinated with Ballard's instant pendant light adaptor, which takes you from recessed to pendant lighting in an instant...

... with NO wiring required!  Brilliant!

We've seen honeycomb lighting everywhere, and it's nice to see Ballard keeping up with the trend!

Chinoiserie Lighting in the Dining Room

Usually I thumb pretty quickly through my issues of Coastal Living Magazine, but I stopped in my tracks on this page...

Of course the de Gournay wallpaper is to die for, but I think it's the Paul Ferrante hanging lantern and coordinating sconces that are really grabbing me here.  I just love its intricate faux bamboo pattern, and the unusual choice of the double arm with two lights.

I've always been a fan of chinoiserie lighting in the dining room, from chandeliers to lanterns... I just can't get enough!

Lighting in Agate

Of all the "market" picks from this month's Lonny Magazine, I found the Eclipse Agate Chandelier to be the most compelling.  Mind you, I'd be unlikely to ever actually own it, and the spikes scare me a bit (better be sure that sucker's installed properly before unsuspecting Aunt Agnes is impaled during Thanksgiving dinner), but I love that it throws a vibe that is simultaneously sleek and graceful.  

It comes in a sconce, too!  Wouldn't these be perfect in a bachelor pad?

I've been noticing agate lighting cropping up quite a bit here and there, including in homes touched by Kate Walsh and Nate Berkus...

1st Dibs features a pretty hot pair of Willy Daro bronze and agate lamps...

...though I think I prefer my agate in more subtle tones...

Not quite ready to dive in?  You could ease in with an agate finial from etsy seller Vntage Queen.

The effect is stunning when the agate itself is lit...
