Etsy Find: Brody and Ma Fabric Covered Tubs

Do you have excess fabric from a recent project, and you just don't know what to do with it?  I found the perfect, affordable solution - custom covered, galvanized tubs by Etsy seller Brody and Ma.

I just had one made for my girlfriend's family room (I blogged about the torturous curtain decision making process here) and was thrilled with the finished product.  She had some leftover yardage of P Kaufmann's 'Hip', which ultimately beat out Schumacher's Arbre Chinois and Hot House for the distinction of covering her family room windows.

Check out the finished product in her beautiful new family room - a custom and reasonably priced ($28) catch-all for books, toys, DVDs, or magazines that works perfectly with the palette of the room:

If you don't have a specific fabric in mind, Brody and Ma offers dozens of ready made options in various sizes, all ranging from $18-$28.

And for an extra few dollars, they'll even monogram/personalize your tub for you:

Circus Trees

My family recently visited Gilroy Gardens, a combination family theme park and botanical garden in Gilroy, California.

Here is the entrance to the park:

A far cry from this:

(not that I am knocking Legoland  - I am sure it is fantastic and we are huge benefactors of Legos!)

I don't know what it is about the west coast, but look at the crazy trees inside Gilroy Gardens!   They look like they belong in a Dr. Seuss book...

The back story of these so-called "Circus Trees"?  In the 1920's, Axel Erlandson saw the natural grafting of two Sycamore trees.  His first major project fused four Sycamore saplings into a cupola that he named the "Four-Legged Giant".  Over the years he created all different shaped trees through grafting, and even bought land and to create a "Tree Circus" in order to showcase these unusual trees.  After his death in 1974, more than 70 spectacular trees were left with no one to care for them, and they began to die.  In 1984, Michael Bonfante bought the trees for Gilroy Gardens. There are about 20 trees on display in the park nestled against the back drop of spectacular gardens.

All photos below courtesy of Gilroy Gardens:

Here are some close cropped imitations!

All natural unusual looking trees:

Have you seen any crazy landscaping lately?!?

What I'm Loving: Jonathan Adler's Customizable Greek Key Wallpaper

When I saw the home of Fitzhugh Carol and Lyndsay Caleo, founders of the Brooklyn Home Company, I just fell in love with the Greek Key wallpaper they used inside the moldings of their living and dining rooms.

I traced it to Jonathan Adler, and gave them a call Friday to request a sample.  I have it in mind for the walls and ceiling of my small and neglected vestibule at the front of my home:

Incredibly, the sample arrived the very next day (at no charge to me).  The color isn't quite what I was looking for, but the folks at Jonathan Adler explained to me that they could the print the wallpaper to any color on the Benjamin Moore color wheel!  Genious!
