Hopefully I'll be celebrating Massachusetts' annual tax free weekend, if the planets align, by becoming the proud owner of all new stainless steel kitchen appliances. Simultaneous to this decision, naturally, I've happened upon articles including Apartment Therapy's "Will White Ice Replace Stainless Steel as the New Appliance Trend" and Houzz's "White Appliances Find the Limelight".
The articles largely reference Whirpool's 2012 "White Ice" collection:
In a kitchen with white cabinetry as below, I must admit the white appliances (which initially struck me as a throw-back) provide a nice seamless flow.
Here's the same kitchen with appliances from the "Black Ice" collection. (Although 'Black Ice' as an appliance line name feels very car accident/weather condition-ish, don't you think?) This space certainly feels far choppier, and even a bit jarring.
House Beautiful's gorgeous 2012 Kitchen of the Year featured the White Ice collection, and it's lookng good....

Personally, I'm sticking with stainless for my (hopeful) purchases this weekend, but I'll be keeping an eye out on this trend!
