Split Personality

Did you see the adorable shots from the winner of Schumacher's "Show Us Your Schumacher" contest?

Beautiful baby aside, don't you just love how the designers used two, sometimes three different fabrics to treat these wing back chairs?

Lauren from Pure Style Home used a similar technique on these chairs for a Washington D.C. showhouse...

You can count on Chairloom to show us an fabulous before and after!

But this look needn't be reserved just for wingbacks....

Hope you had a great weekend!

The Pink Jalk Project

Two years ago, we told you about a fabulous breast cancer fundraiser in which top designers reimagined, and then auctioned, the wishbone chair for Suite New York.

Last year, the project was repeated - this time using the swan chair.

Vicente Wolf's was my favorite - don't you just love the play on the ribbon association with breast cancer awareness and fundraising?

This year, the artists have taken on the Grete Jalk's GJ Chair (circa 1963)...

It's so fun to see what totally different directions the designers took in their approach....

You can bid on chairs through the end of the month, with proceeds benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  To see the rest of the chairs, click here.

We'll be back tomorrow with more items for the home that raise funds for breast cancer research!

Racing Stripes

If you're like me, your inbox is flooded on a daily basis with retail email pitches of new products, sales, and deals that amount to a major time suck of perusing, deleting.... and, I'll be honest, sometimes buying.

This beauty, from Serena and Lily,  arrived in my inbox yesterday, and was worth a second look...

I just love the bold racing stripe, paired with the classic and comfy looking shape...

The Miramar Racing Stripe chair comes in navy as well - would be perfect for a beach house...

I've been noticing, and loving, the racing stripe look on furniture lately, starting with this piece of gorgeousness from Chairloom....

Here's the before and after....

...and the backside; so striking, right?

This chair pairs the stripe with contrasting piping, which is a nice detail...

The concept works on a simple slipper chair, too....

The bold stripe look works on other pieces of furniture, too, like this settee from Hickory Chair...

... and on Kate Spade's headboard (hey look, she lets her husband drink in bed!)...

Here's a shot without Mr. Spade....

Can't wait to use this look on a project soon!

Mismatched Dining

Seeing Reese Witherspoon's Ojai dining room featured in the latest issue of Elle Decor (this is the pad Robert Pattinson has reportedly been wallowing in since the cheating scandal), got me to thinking of the mismatched dining chair trend.  I think the look works here - partially because Witherspoon's home is very casual and eclectic - but that it's not always a slam dunk.

For example, this arrangement is just jarring and confusing to me...

... and this set up borders on cute, but does not provide the conformity or consistency my eye is looking for...

via Apartment Therapy

Sarah Jessica Parker's dining room below, on the other hand, is a slam dunk with various styles of chairs unified by color (and the spectacular chandelier isn't hurting things, either).

A similar concept...

Jenna Lyon's dining room, and the several that follow it, trend lightly with the concept - alternating between just two chairs.

This totally spectacular image implies that the concept can be used in formal spaces, too!

Would you try mismatched dining seating in your home?

Eye Spy Mid-Century Chairs

As a child, my most dreaded doctor's visit was to the optometrist (it was also the most necessary, since I'm blinder than most bats).  Had my doc's eye chart looked like this (featuring the iconic mid-century designs of Eames, Jacobsen, Betoia, Aarnio, Saarinen, and Wagner) maybe I'd have been more interested...

Which is your favorite?
