Free Advice Friday: Children's Rugs

We get a good many emails and inquiries from readers (friends and strangers alike) asking advice on certain projects, products, or design dilemmas.  Because it's hard to keep up with the correspondance, we've decided to start a new feature - "Free Advice Friday" which will run once or twice a month.

One reader wrote asking for guidance in finding children's rugs for her new home.  Pottery Barn Kids wasn't cutting it, and she wasn't sure where else to turn.  So here goes!

For a kids room or nursery, you can't go wrong with a versatile bordered or braided rug that can grow with the child and his/her changing needs and tastes.  Serena and Lily, Land of Nod, and Restoration Hardware Baby & Child offer some great options.

Serena and Lily, $299-599
Serena and Lily, $349-699

Land of Nod, $129-599

Restoration Hardware, prices vary

If you're looking for something a little more daring in terms of pattern and shape, how about this whimsical stunner?

Anthropologie, $79-299

Or how about the trend of layering brightly patterned zebra rugs (as my husband cringes), as shown by Jonathan Adler Junior?

Or, consider some of Adler's more traditional offerings:

If you love pattern on your floors, you could also consider Roberta Roller Rabbit, as I did in my daughter's nursery:

Another great source for fantastic patterned rugs increasingly seen in nurseries is Madeline Weinrib, available at ABC Carpet and Home and other sources:

Nothing feels as soft underfoot for your little ones as a sheepskin or flokati rug:

Overstock, $263.99 for 4x6

This one appears to be layered over FLOR tiles, which are a fantastic option for messy kids!

Home Decorators Collection, $569 for 6x9

And some other affordable options from Overstock:

Happy Weekend!
