Shipping You Home

A group of several creative architects has started a new and fascinating trend - recycling steel corrugated shipping containers and using them in their work.  Not only is this trend "green", it saves considerably on construction costs.  They've done it all - from using just a couple of containers to create a tiny and efficient home with everything you could need, to providing just the framework for an indoor/outdoor entryway, to building a entire city block of shipping container housing for students in Holland.

All the basics, from Poteet Architects:

I'm guessing these steel structures would have been a great place to ride out Irene!

  1. This is fascinating! We considered buying the 40 ft shipping container we used to move back to St.Croix as storage, as many people do here. I couldn't take the eyesore in the backyard, but perhaps I could have made it beautiful like these pictures are!
