Blogfest Update: Kips Bay and Savant Experience

What better way to enter "Blogfest 2012" than through the foyer of the Kips Bay Showhouse, decorated with one of our favorite wallpapers - Scalamandre's iconic Leaping Zebras (see a bathroom we did in it here)...

So loving the playful detail of one cut out zebra making its way around the corner (to the bathroom, I imagine)...

Here's Margaret Russell, editor of Architectural Digest, welcoming us and 140 other bloggers to Kips Bay and Blogfest 2012, in a stunning room designed by Bunny Williams, David Kleinberg, and Brian McCarthy, in homage to the late Albert Hadley.

In the past, the Kips Bay Showhouse has been held in various townhouses, usually on the East Side.  This year, the designers set up shop in two, $16 million penthouse pads on the West Side, complete with soaring ceilings and windows galore.  I especially loved areas like this dining room (by Todd Alexander Romano), which used a deep eggplant color to "cozify" the space... (And that means a lot coming from me as you know purple is my least favorite color)

We told you agate was so hot right now!

We rode the elevator up with a super nice, normal and funny (refreshing!) Thom Filicia, who designed this interior room.  Excuse the terrible Droid photo, but enjoy the amazing lacquered ceiling...

Muralist Chuck Fischer was also super lovely, and we loved his painted valance - too cute!

We left Kips Bay, each with a Dash Albert rug as a gift, and zipped down to Soho to the Savant Experience Center, a futuristic technology showroom for commercial and residential spaces.  We loved this bathroom mirror - where a small section can light up as a TV, but go back to a plain old mirror when it's off.  Great way to catch the news in the a.m. (with your Corona Light on the vanity LOL)...

Off to breakfast at Hearst Tower - more to come!
