The Venice, California home of late actor and artist Dennis Hopper has recently hit the market, listed by Coldwell Banker for a cool $6.25 million. The minimalist estate was designed by architect Brian Murphy, with a guest house built from plans drawn by Frank Gehry. The sleek and stark surfaces of the main house contrast sharply with Hopper's extensive collection of Oriental rugs and abstract modern art. Cozy, no. Striking, yes.

ReplyDeleteWe just moved into an old Victorian home in Virginia (lots of woodwork, which is not really my thing but we're renting). I bring to it a mid-century modern aesthetic. Most of my stuff looks too masculine and cold for the space. Do you have thoughts on how to combine Victorian and contemporary looks? I'm thinking a good dose of feminine fabrics (the anthropologie look) will help soften the feel of my furniture. So, for example, I got these curtains for my kitchen from urban outfitters:
