Principles of Color

In designing a room, we often use the following principle for color - 60% primary color, 30% secondary color, and 10% accent color.  This navy room by Mary McDonald illustrates the principle perfectly... don't you just love the pop of pink?

And some other fine examples...

In this case (I'm pretty sure the room is by Amanda Nisbet, but I admittedly lost track), the accent color is the gold tone of the sconces, lamp, and garden stools...

Navy blue and black... increasingly an accepted and even popular combination, broken up with ivory pops...

How have you used color in your home?
