Round-Up: Abstract Art Favorites

On Monday, we showed you some fabulous examples of living rooms featuring abstract art.  As promised, we're back today with a sampling of some of our favorite abstract painters working today...

I keep stumbling upon the distinct works of painter and cellist Caroline Wright, including in a somewhat recent "Emerging Artists" sale on One Kings Lane.  I just love the title of this one... "August's Humid Decline".

Not sure how the colors would work in your space?  No worries... you've got options!

I first found Sharon Paster's abstract landscapes on Serena and Lily's Baazar.  This one, called Trajectory, reminds me of the work of my favorite abstract painter, the late Helen Frankenthaler.

I blogged about the Erin Chance Fenstermaker painting I bought for my kitchen here.  I've never tired looking at it, and love the sophistication it brings to an area of the home typically reserved for 1st grade homework and bad cooking.  Here's another of my favorites by ECF...

New Jersey mom of two Reagan Geschardt builds layers of textures, colors, and shapes on to her paintings, like the one you see below.  You can access her beautiful collection here.

Etsy is always a wonderful place to look for affordable art, and we've found it in the works of Connecticut abstract artist Tracey Kafka.  This one would look awesome in my daughter's room, if I hadn't already filled the walls with other things I thought would look awesome.

Love this one, too....

Abstract art isn't for everyone, but if you are a fan, we hope we've offered up some interesting suggestions!

Have a great weekend!

How Do You Like Your Taxidermy?

Do you love the concept of taxidermy for your mountain/lake/ski home (you all have one of those, right?), but are grossed out by the real deal?

Aerin Lauder's Aspen home

Fear not, my PETA-loving friends, there are plenty of options out there for you!

For starters, you could pick up artist David Cole's deer head lego kit!

The funky catalog Uncommon Goods offers various options in cardboard...

Or you could follow Design Sponge's instructions to make your own DIY newspaper taxidermy!

RubysLounge sells stunning resin taxidermy on etsy...

Ever heard of "crochetdermy"?  Well, you have now, courtesy of master crochet artist Shauna Richardson...

This felt taxidermy would be so unique in a nursery, don't you think?

Or you could go for Etsy seller Misfit Menagerie's stuffed animal faux taxidermies...

How would you use faux taxidermy?

Etsy Pillows by Kyoozi

If you're decorating on a budget (and who isn't, at least to some extent...), an affordable way to use the lush texture, pattern and color of designer fabrics, is through throw pillows.  A little fabric goes a long way here, and they're easy to change out in a couple of years if you're ready for something different.  Throw pillows are also a low-risk way to try something really wild and different!

Etsy seller Kyoozi has one of the most extensive shops, featuring pillow covers made from some of my favorite fabrics from the likes of Duralee, Schumacher and P Kaufman.  And the prices are reasonable, too!  I haven't ordered from here yet, but I'm guessing it won't be long.

Happy shopping!

Chiang Mai Sofa

Are you sick of Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon yet (see our previous post about it here)?  If not, check out this "Dragon Slayer sofa" on etsy - it's a stunner!

This is how my husband would undoubtedly arrange the cushions :)

You could pick up that matching side lamp, too!

Etsy's Dumbo Offices

You've seen me reference etsy on this blog about a trillion times - I've used this kinder, gentler, more creative version of ebay to purchase everything from handmade clothing, jewelry, stationery, party supplies, pillows, art and more!  I love that by shopping on etsy I'm supporting small, creative artisans - it feels good, like shopping at the local farmer's market.

I enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at Etsy's offices in the Brooklyn neighborhood know as Dumbo, as captured by the New York Times.   The offices are almost exclusively decorated with wares purchased from etsy, with each new employee given $100 to spend on the site for goodies to adorn his/her new work space.  To read the article, titled "Online Bazaar Builds On Its Base With Sense of Community" click here.  And check back tomorrow to see our pick of Hollywood Regency items available on etsy!

Annechovie Christmas Stamp

Looking to add some punch to your holiday cards this season?  How elegant is Anne Harwell's holiday stamp, available in her etsy shop?  I just want to cuddle up with that chevron pillow in front of the fire...

I also love this fairly new addition to her etsy shop:

I thought of it instantly when I saw this stunner in the window of the Brunschwig & Fils showroom at the Boston Design Center the other day...

Anne has a great selection of Christmas cards in addition to her iconic chair prints:

Anne is offering 25% off the entire inventory of her etsy store now through Friday.  Click here to visit, and use the code Black25 at checkout for your discount!
