Just as I was feeling proud of the dollhouse renovation I completed as a gift to my youngest daughter, I caught wind of Curbed's Operation Dollhouse.
To recap, here's the "after" photo of the dollhouse revamp I completed for Liv Jane for her second birthday:
It was put to shame just a few days later when Curbed revealed the results from its Operation Dollhouse (the company asked six preeminent Shelter publications to decorate a dollhouse and send it back). My absolute favorite? Lonny (of course) with its accents of lucite, zebra, and punches of chevron on the seat cushion and drapes.
The sunburst mirror is actually one of editor Michelle Adams' earrings, with a tiny mirror glued in the middle. And the foyer light fixture? A tiny Christmas ornament...
House Beautiful interestingly lined the walls of its dollhouse with decoupaged images from their "Blue" issue. I wouldn't have guessed it, but the layering totally works, providing depth and perspective (in minutia).
Elle Decor, in transition with new offices and a new editor, cleverly used their house in a mock ED spread. Lovin' the iconic Rietveld zig-zag chairs, the Noguchi cocktail table, and of course the use of bold colors, stripes and patterns.
Don't forget to enter our Belly Babies giveaway tonight by midnight!
Best, Deb
